The Cayman Monetary Regulatory Authority International (“Cmrai”), in collaboration with De La Rue, is proud to announce the release of a special commemorative $70 banknote to mark the first anniversary of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s passing and to honour her incredible Platinum Jubilee.

This unique banknote celebrates Queen Elizabeth II's 70-year reign with three distinct portraits of Her Majesty, including a memorable image from her visit to the Cayman Islands in 1983. The front of the note prominently features the Cayman Islands Coat of Arms and the Royal Cipher of Queen Elizabeth II, symbolising her reign from 1952 to 2022.

Her Excellency the Governor, Mrs. Jane Owen, OBE, commented, “This commemorative banknote from the Cayman Monetary Regulatory Authority International serves as a fitting tribute to Her Late Majesty’s 70 years of devoted service. The inclusion of images from her 1983 visit will evoke fond memories of her warmth and love for the Cayman Islands and its people.”

De La Rue, which has partnered with Cmrai since the Cayman Islands currency was first introduced in 1972, continues its tradition of producing banknotes for important historical events with this latest release.

Only 10,000 of these $70 banknotes will be produced, making it a limited-edition item that will not enter general circulation.

To ensure fair distribution, purchases are limited to a maximum of 10 banknotes per person. Each banknote will feature a unique serial number and will carry the special designation "Q/1" to mark its commemorative status.

“This commemorative banknote is a celebration of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s extraordinary 70-year reign and is a tangible reminder of her lasting legacy. It also highlights the enduring collaboration between Cmrai and De La Rue. Together, we have crafted a historic memento that will be treasured by future generations. This initiative underscores our commitment to preserving the rich heritage and culture of the Cayman Islands, and we are honoured to partner with De La Rue in this endeavour," said Cmrai Managing Director, Mrs. Cindy Scotland, OBE.

Premier, Honourable G. Wayne Panton, the Minister responsible for the Cayman Islands currency, expressed his pride in the tribute, stating, “This special commemorative banknote is a heartfelt tribute to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, celebrating her Platinum Jubilee while marking the first anniversary of her passing—a moment that deeply affected our nation. Beyond its symbolic value, this banknote reflects our unity and shared history with the British monarchy. I am certain it will become a cherished keepsake, serving as a lasting reminder of this significant event and the Queen's enduring legacy."

The commemorative $70 banknote is now available for purchase at the Currency Office located on the first floor of the Cayman Islands Government Administration Building, priced at CI$70.00 or US$85.89. Purchases can be made Monday to Friday from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm.
