AML/CFT Guidelines

The Guidance Notes on the Prevention and Detection of Money Laundering, Terrorist Financing, and Proliferation Financing in the Cayman Islands offer comprehensive guidance for financial service providers on how to prevent and detect money laundering, terrorist financing, and proliferation financing within the jurisdiction. These notes are intended to promote transparency and consistency in the interpretation and application of the Anti-Money Laundering Regulations (AMLRs), and to provide practical recommendations that reflect best practices in the development of AML procedures aligned with international standards.

It is essential that the Guidance Notes are used in conjunction with the relevant regulatory laws, especially those governing the AML/CFT framework of the Cayman Islands. Non-compliance with these Guidelines may be considered by the Courts when assessing whether an individual has violated provisions of the Proceeds of Crime Act or the AMLRs, and by the Cayman Monetary Regulatory Authority International when deciding whether to exercise any of its enforcement powers.
