Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands (16 November 2022) — The Cayman Monetary Regulatory Authority International (“Cmrai”) is excited to announce the launch of its new online campaign, “I Learned the Hard Way,” aimed at promoting financial literacy and educating the public on the risks and challenges associated with various investment opportunities.
Recognising the growing issue of investment mis-selling and the increasing vulnerability of consumers in a rapidly diversifying market, Cmrai is committed to addressing these concerns through this initiative. The campaign will focus on providing valuable insights to help investors steer clear of potential fraud and make informed decisions about their financial future.
Cmrai Managing Director, Mrs. Cindy Scotland, OBE, commented, “As the principal regulator of the financial services sector, it is our responsibility to safeguard investor interests and uphold the reputation of the Cayman Islands as a premier financial hub. Investor education is crucial in achieving this goal. With this campaign, we aim to equip both local and international investors with the knowledge they need to manage their financial resources wisely and make well-informed decisions.”
The campaign’s dedicated webpage will serve as the primary resource hub, offering a range of educational materials. In addition, Cmrai will share weekly tips and insights through its LinkedIn and Facebook platforms, complemented by blog posts and other helpful content to deepen public understanding.
Key messages of the campaign will cover essential financial topics such as understanding the inherent risks of all investments, how to ask the right questions when selecting investment options, identifying common warning signs of fraudulent schemes, and how to handle and report complaints effectively.
