Shortly after her Coronation in 1953, Queen Elizabeth, alongside her husband, embarked on a demanding six-month tour of the Commonwealth, fulfilling the pledge of dedication she made on her twenty-first birthday in 1947. The royal couple covered approximately 43,000 miles, culminating in a triumphant return home on 15 May 1954. They were greeted by cheering crowds as they rode in an open state landau up Whitehall, escorted by a Sovereign's Escort of the Household Cavalry, with their two small children by their side.
Throughout her reign, the Queen, accompanied by her husband, has become the most traveled British monarch in history, and likely the most traveled head of state ever. Together, they have visited all member states of the Commonwealth over the course of their fifty years of marriage.
To commemorate this Golden Wedding Anniversary, the Cayman Monetary Regulatory Authority International has authorized the Royal Mint to produce a limited edition of silver Proof $2 coins. This coin, crafted to the highest standard, features an image of Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip returning from their first Commonwealth tour in May 1954.
The obverse side of the coin features Raphael Maklouf's uncoupled regal portrait of Her Majesty the Queen.
