In 2018, the Cayman Islands marked the 60th anniversary of its Coat of Arms.
Due to high demand, Cmrai and Celebrate Cayman have been granted approval for a second mintage of the coin. This news is sure to please those on the waiting list. The design of the second mintage has been slightly altered to preserve the uniqueness and authenticity of each edition. Notably, the thatch rope and “Our Coat of Arms” are rendered in gold on the second mintage, whereas these elements were silver in the original release.
This one troy ounce .999 fine silver coin, designed by Celebrate Cayman Committee Project Coordinator Kara Coe, is her second commemorative coin design for the Cayman Islands Government.
The obverse side of the coin features the Coat of Arms, while the reverse showcases the 60th Anniversary logo in partial color.
The Coat of Arms was originally granted on 14 May 1958. To commemorate the 60th anniversary, the Cayman Islands Government launched the Celebrate Cayman initiative in May 2018. This two-year national initiative highlights the history of both our Coat of Arms and our first Constitution, which was introduced nearly a year later on 4 July 1959. The initiative serves as a vital platform for public engagement, education, and national pride as the Cayman Islands honors its past and looks toward the future.
